World's Longest Limousine 'American Dream' Stretches Over 30 Meters

A 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Transformed into a 75-Passenger Limousine with a Pool and Helipad

The American Dream holds the Guinness World Record as the longest limousine globally, an extraordinary vehicle that stretches an impressive 30.54 meters (100 feet, 1.5 inches). Originally built by combining six 1976 Cadillac Eldorados, this colossal car can accommodate up to 75 passengers, making it not just a mode of transportation but a mobile luxury lounge. Designed with extravagance in mind, the American Dream features amenities that rival those of luxury hotels, including a large waterbed, a swimming pool complete with a diving board, a jacuzzi, a mini-golf course, and even a helipad capable of supporting a small helicopter.

However, while its opulence is unmatched, its practicality is highly limited. Due to its extreme length, maneuverability is almost nonexistent. Cornering is virtually impossible, and the limousine can only operate effectively on long, straight roads. As a result, it’s not used for traditional transportation purposes but instead serves as a showpiece at the Dezerland Park Orlando Auto Museum in Florida, where it continues to fascinate visitors with its grandeur.

The origins of this super-stretched limousine date back to 1986 when renowned car customizer and collector Jay Ohrberg first conceptualized and built the American Dream. Initially, the vehicle was “only” 18.28 meters (60 feet) long, which was still impressive by limousine standards. Unsatisfied with its length, Ohrberg decided to extend the car even further, ultimately reaching the record-breaking 30.5-meter mark. This ambitious project earned the American Dream its spot in the 1986 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest car ever built.

At the height of its fame, the limousine appeared in numerous magazines, TV shows, and even movies, becoming a cultural icon in its own right. But like many novelties, its popularity waned over time. Eventually, the once-celebrated vehicle fell into disrepair, abandoned for years behind a warehouse in New Jersey, forgotten by the public and left to deteriorate.

The American Dream was destined for obscurity until car enthusiasts Michael Dezer and Michael Manning stumbled upon it online. Captivated by its history and unique design, they decided to purchase the dilapidated limousine with the goal of restoring it to its former glory. The restoration process was extensive, taking several years and significant financial investment. The result, however, was nothing short of spectacular. The revamped American Dream now features 26 brand-new wheels, a gleaming white paint job, and an even slightly longer body than before, reaffirming its title as the longest limousine in the world.

Today, the American Dream stands not just as a record-breaking vehicle but as a testament to automotive creativity, innovation, and the enduring allure of extravagant design. Its story, from its creation in the 1980s to its decline and ultimate revival, continues to captivate car enthusiasts and museum-goers alike.
