South Carolina Woman Denied Bond for Drunken Crash Resulting in Newlywed Bride's Death

A judge has denied bond for Jamie Lee Komoroski, a 25-year-old woman accused of causing a fatal crash that killed a newlywed bride during her wedding day celebrations. The incident occurred along a South Carolina beach road when Komoroski, allegedly driving under the influence, crashed her Toyota Camry into a golf cart escorting the couple. Tragically, the bride lost her life, and the groom suffered severe injuries, requiring surgeries and leaving him in a wheelchair.

According to officials, Komoroski's blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit at the time of the crash. She faces charges of reckless vehicular homicide and three counts of driving under the influence causing death or great bodily injury. The judge ruled that she will remain behind bars until her trial.

During the court proceedings, emotions ran high, with the bride's mother expressing her grief, stating, "She didn't just kill my child, she killed all of us." As Samantha Miller and Aric Hutchinson left their wedding reception, Komoroski, allegedly visibly intoxicated, had been hopping between different bars with her coworkers, according to allegations made in a wrongful death lawsuit.

Komoroski refused to complete a sobriety test at the scene and required assistance from a responding officer to stand, according to an affidavit. The case has garnered immense attention, and the trial is scheduled for March 2024, with efforts to expedite the process. If not heard by then, Komoroski may be released on a $150,000 surety bond under electronic monitoring and house arrest.
